Only with the collective support of community members like you, can we save more lives through transforming the way we provide patient-centered care. See a menu of opportunities and programs in need of your support below:

Areas of Greatest Need

When you invest in the areas of greatest need at Miller Children's & Women's, you can rest assured that your funds will be automatically channeled to the area most important to the hospital and its patients.

Bickerstaff Family Center

The Bickerstaff Family Center cares for infants, children, adolescents and pregnant women who are at risk for, or infected with, HIV/AIDS, acute community-acquired illnesses, chronic infections and other immunological disorders.

The Bickerstaff Center offers a multi-disciplinary, family centered care approach through their HIV and Infectious Disease Care programs. In partnership with the National Institute of Health (NIH), the Bickerstaff Center participates in national research studies, such as International Maternal, Pediatric and Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials Group (IMPAACT), to determine successful treatment regimens. The Bickerstaff team provides more than 7,000 hospital consultations for children staying overnight at Miller Children’s & Women's and outpatient follow-up visits annually.

Cherese Mari Laulhere BirthCare Center

Miller Children’s & Women’s is unique as it’s the only hospital of its kind in the region bringing together maternity and pediatric specialty services under one roof to keep the family unit connected. With maternal-fetal medicine specialists and neonatologists on-site 24/7, the Cherese Mari Laulhere BirthCare Center is equipped to handle routine to high-risk pregnancies. And if a delivery isn’t routine, the baby is moved just down the hall to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit to receive specialized care.

The BirthCare Center has been recognized as High Performing in Maternity Care (Uncomplicated Pregnancy) by U.S. News & World Report and is a designated Baby-Friendly birth facility. It also offers a Perinatal Special Care Unit, specialized transport team, private labor and delivery suites, prenatal education classes and comprehensive lactation support, including an Outpatient Lactation Clinic.

Cherese Mari Laulhere Children's Village

It takes a village to care for sick children, and the Cherese Mari Laulhere Children’s Village is an 80,000 sq. ft., four-story building on the Miller Children’s & Women’s campus that provides a one-stop-shop approach to care.

Many children have more than one health issue, which previously required families to travel to various specialty medical offices scattered around Long Beach. Now, more than 30 different types of specialty physicians and a variety of medical services are centralized in the Children’s Village – making the health care experience more convenient and efficient for thousands of children and families across the region who need specialized pediatric care each year.

Cherese Mari Laulhere Child Life Program

The Cherese Mari Laulhere Child Life Program was developed to help make the hospital experience a more positive one for children of all ages. The award-winning Child Life Program has provided more than 50 years of patient and family centered care to patients, ages 0 to 21, offering developmental, educational and emotional support. Child Life Specialists plan individualized and group programs that help children adjust to their hospital stay and promote the continuity of normal, daily childhood activities.

Cherese Mari Laulhere Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The 30-bed Cherese Mari Laulhere Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) provides care to toddlers, children and teenagers who become critically ill or injured. Critical care is comprehensive care for patients whose condition may be life-threatening or who may require constant monitoring.

Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Institute

The Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Institute provides quality, compassionate care to children with cancer, sickle cell disease and other serious blood disorders.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Miller Children's & Women's is one of 22 hospitals in California to feature a regional Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which is the highest designation available by the American Academy of Pediatrics. This means we have advanced capabilities, along with skilled specialists, to care for sick and critically ill, and premature babies. We treat nearly 1,200 critically ill and premature babies each year.

Nursing Education

Miller Children's & Women's is a Magnet Recognition hospital, reinforcing their continued dedication to the highest quality of nursing practice.

Orthopedic Center

Because kids are constantly growing and developing, they need specialized pediatric orthopedic care that only a children’s hospital like Miller Children’s & Women’s can provide.

Our Orthopedic Center has a group of board-certified orthopedic surgeons — specializing in a wide-range of orthopedic sub-specialties — who work together to cover the entire pediatric orthopedic spectrum. Fully integrated, state-of-the-art orthopedic care is available for children from birth to 21-years-of-age with developmental disorders, congenital, neuromuscular and post-traumatic problems of the musculoskeletal system.

Simply Better Trust

The Simply Better Trust Fund is available for employees at Miller Children's & Women's to make a patient’s experience at our hospital memorable.

Stramski Children's Developmental Center

The Stramski Children’s Developmental Center is a comprehensive center that cares for children — from birth to age 21 — with behavioral and developmental conditions. The Stramski Center often serves as the transitional care center for infants and toddlers, who have developmental delay following hospitalization in either the NICU or PICU — many times following the child’s care for years.

Comprehensive, multi-disciplinary care at the Stramski Center includes Behavioral and Psychological Testing, Neurodevelopment, Craniofacial, Sleep Disorders, High Risk Infant Follow-Up, and Fragile X programs that are designed to help manage a child’s illness and improve their developmental outcomes. The Stramski Children’s Developmental Center receives tremendous community support, especially from the Steel Magnolias.
