Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital’s longtime community partner, Southland Credit Union, recently donated a GO Kart—a portable video game kiosk designed specifically for hospitals—to help children undergoing treatment enjoy interactive play and entertainment from the comfort of their hospital rooms. This marks the second GO Kart donated by Southland Credit Union, following their first donation in 2023, further demonstrating their commitment to bringing comfort and joy to young patients.
Created by the nonprofit organization Gamers Outreach, the GO Kart is outfitted with a gaming console, monitor, and a variety of game options. It helps reduce stress and bring a sense of normalcy to hospitalized children who may be facing long or difficult stays.
“This incredible donation will have a meaningful impact on the emotional well-being of our patients,” said Rita Goshert, director, Cherese Mari Laulhere Child Life Program, Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital. “Being in the hospital can be an overwhelming experience for children, and having access to familiar activities like video games helps ease anxiety, provide distraction, and create moments of joy. We’re so grateful to Southland Credit Union for supporting our mission to care for the whole child—not just medically, but emotionally and socially as well.”
The Cherese Mari Laulhere Child Life Program at Miller Children’s & Women’s integrates therapeutic play, education, and emotional support into each child’s hospital experience, promoting coping and healing through developmentally appropriate activities. The GO Kart adds to the program’s growing toolbox of child-friendly resources designed to empower young patients and give them a greater sense of control during their care journey.
“Southland Credit Union is proud to support Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital and the incredible work they do for families in our community,” said Thomas Lent, president/CEO, Southland Credit Union. “We believe that initiatives like these can make a significant difference in the lives of children, providing them with moments of joy and distraction during their hospital stay.”
With the addition of a second GO Kart, even more patients will have access to moments of play and connection, helping to brighten even the toughest days in the hospital. Community partnerships like Southland Credit Union continue to bring hope and healing to patients and families every day.
