Tichenor Clinic for ChildrenThe Orthopedic Center at MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach has received a $30,000 grant from the Tichenor Support Foundation. The Tichenor Support Foundation was created in the 1990s to manage funds left by Adelaide Tichenor in 1924 to open a children’s clinic – Tichenor Clinic for Children. In addition to supporting Tichenor Clinic, the Tichenor Support Foundation made its first gift to Miller Children’s & Women’s 15 years ago to help the hospital open the Orthopedic Center.

“The grant given to the Orthopedic Center is able to help patients who unfortunately wouldn’t be able to afford therapy otherwise,” says Emory Chang, M.D., pediatric orthopedic surgeon at MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach and medical director at Tichenor Clinic for Children. “They’ve made medicine more accessible to patients of all backgrounds.”

The Tichenor Support Foundation has provided an annual grant to Miller Children’s & Women’s since 2007. The annual grant aids in providing general support for the center such as expansive technology, equipment, and overall treatment for pediatric patients.

The Orthopedic Center at Miller Children’s & Women’s has a group of pediatric orthopedic surgeons — specializing in a wide-range of pediatric orthopedic sub-specialties — who work together to cover the entire pediatric orthopedic spectrum. Some of the specialties at the center include pediatric orthopedic trauma, foot and lower extremities, bone and soft tissue tumors, and sports medicine.

“Our orthopedic program, and the patients it has served, has benefitted greatly from the charitable grant given to us by the Tichenor Support Foundation,” says Dr. Chang. “Miller Children & Women’s has a deep connection and history with the foundation that we are very grateful for.”

Miller Children’s & Women’s appreciates the foundation’s long-term investment in patient care.
