Content segments are modular blocks of content that have specific styling and layouts, but offer flexibility in building pages across the site. It is important to understand the best uses of each content segment and to leverage them in this way in order to create a consistent user experience throughout the site.

Most content segments have a headline and/or description field that can appear above the entire content segment section. It is highly encouraged that you use these fields to break up content, provide context about what that section contains and allow the page to be scannable.

Rich Text Editor (RTE)

An open and flexible content region that is based on a built-in content editing field. Content can be formatted using headers, (e.g. H2, H3), paragraphs, lists, hyperlinks, and basic text styling (e.g. bold, italic). If another content segment doesn’t make sense to use you can also use the RTE for tables, images, etc.

Use this segment for larger blocks of copy, when inline images are needed and when a variety of content formatting is needed.

Introduction

Similar to Rich Text Editor, but with a more basic set of formatting options (bold, italic, hyperlinks) and more prominent appearance on the page.

Use this segment to introduce a content topic/theme beneath the marquee or throughout the body content to break up multiple topics.

Content Feature

Used to highlight content in a more visual format. This is also a great content segment to use to tease more detailed content and encourage the user to click-through to learn more.

Content Feature

You can feature images or video and the copy can be either right or left aligned.

Call-To-Action

Appears as a single, full width block and used to highlight an important call-to-action on the page. Use this segment when you want to draw attention to a specific action you want the user to take. Keep the headline and description copy concise and make sure you have an actionable CTA.

Content Reference – General

Also used to tease content, but the teaser content will be pulled through from the internal page you are referencing. This is useful when you don’t need to create teaser content that’s unique to the page you’re on, but instead can be more general. Content references come in many forms. See below examples. When using content references it’s typically helpful to populate a section headline so the user has a better understanding and context around the content of this section. The example below references general content like webpages.

Highlights

Visual, card-like blocks that can be used to either display brief content or tease content with the goal of encouraging a user to learn more. This segment uses either imagery or iconography in partnership with the text for added context and visual design. It can be used for things like key benefits, statistics, etc.

Accordion

Displays multiple sections of content in an expandable accordion. If the accordion has more than six sections then a “collapse all” button appears and can be used to collapse all open sections. Keep in mind that by default users will only see the headline copy and therefore it should be descriptive enough for a user to understand what content will appear if expanded. This segment is great for FAQs or other situations where there are large, related blocks of text.
