In partnership with Long Beach Memorial, patients are referred to the highly skilled team of wound healing experts at the Wound Healing Center (WHC) when their wounds don’t heal properly. The WHC is dedicated to providing comprehensive follow-up care to young patients with non-healing or complex wounds.
Wound care specialists should be consulted when the child’s wounds do not heal properly. This can be due to:
- Diabetes, cancer or other diseases
- Minor burns
- Surgery or trauma
- Ulcers
- Poor circulation
- Animal or insect bites
The Wound Healing Center care team will work together to provide the child with personalized care while working with other pediatric specialists. Some services provided by the Wound Healing Centers include:
- Wound assessments
- Obtaining cultures of wounds
- Dressing wounds
- Hyperbaric therapy referrals
In addition, the Wound Healing Center provides assistance in obtaining wound care supplies and services, as well as educating the child and the families on proper wound care.
