Pathology Department
Pathology is the study of the cycle of disease, including causes, development and effects of the disease. The pathology department at Miller Children’s has 11 highly-trained pathologists who are specially trained in all aspects of the clinical laboratory, including quality assessment and ensuring accurate test results. The pathologists work with pediatric sub-specialists and have recognized expertise such as hematopathology and pediatric pathology.
Services Provided
The pathology department at Miller Children’s provides services for both in-patient, out-patient, and for physicians in their office practice (which is via Memorial Healthtech Laboratories a division of Long Beach Memorial). The Pathology department is committed to compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies including, but not limited to Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment (CLIA), College of American Pathology (CAP), and State of California Department of Public Health. The Department of Pathology administers policies throughout its organization to ensure that such compliance is maintained. Some of the comprehensive laboratory services provided are:
- AIDS testing
- Hematopathology
- Fetal lung maturity studies
- Newborn screening program
- Obstetrical/prenatal studies
- Immunopathology
The pathology department provides comprehensive and dependable patient testing for Miller Children’s, Long Beach Memorial, health maintenance organizations, physicians and clinics throughout the region.
Accreditation
The Pathology Department maintains a current CLIA number with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The Pathology Department is also accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), and holds all other necessary state licenses.
