The American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) have emphasized the importance of maintaining rigorous, science-based standards in immunization practices. In addition, the West Coast Health Alliance has reaffirmed its recommendation to follow AAP vaccine schedule.
We will continue to follow evidence-based recommendations from the AAP for vaccines to protect the health of our patients and our community.
Timing is more important now than ever for parents to review and maintain their child’s vaccination schedule. We are entering the busy flu and RSV season, which can bring extreme risk for for children, especially those with underlying health conditions. We also are seeing an increase in flu and RSV-related hospitalizations across the region, which underscores the importance of timely vaccination.
It’s also important for expectant parents to know that when pregnant moms receive the flu and RSV vaccines, they pass protective antibodies to their babies through the placenta. This maternal immunity protects newborns during the critical first weeks of life—before they are old enough to be vaccinated themselves.
