On Feb. 22, 2021, MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach will open the Cherese Mari Laulhere Children’s Village, conveniently located next to the main hospital entrance.
In one kid-friendly location, families can see physicians in more than 30 pediatric specialties, as well as access a range of medical and support services, such as a pharmacy, education center laboratory and more.
By centralizing these services under one roof, Miller Children’s & Women’s is improving the health care experience for children and their families who need specialized care. The patient experience starts before families even step into the building through a new Navigation Center – a call center that is staffed with bilingual operators.
The Navigation Center will help guide families with any issues or concerns they may have about their child’s care and connect them with the right hospital resource who can assist them. Staff at the Navigation Center are available to help families manage their appointments, refill prescriptions and contact their specialty physician or care team.
“Currently we have medical offices spread across Long Beach, so they all have different phone numbers,” says Christina Bell, RN, executive director, Outpatient Specialty Centers, Miller Children’s & Women’s. “One child could need care across town, and another at the hospital. It’s a lot to ask a parent to juggle. One of the most exciting things about the Children’s Village was knowing we would be able to transition to the Navigation Center, giving our patients and families one phone number that can address all their needs.”
While not all the outpatient programs at Miller Children’s & Women’s are moving into the Children’s Village, families can still call the Navigation Center regardless of type of specialty care they need.
In addition to one convenient phone number, families who receive care at the Children’s Village have access to myChart®, an electronic medical record system. With myChart, families can contact their child’s physician, access test results, manage appointments, request prescription renewals and more. myChart sends families appointment reminders and helps get kids the care they need when they need it.
“When planning for the Children’s Village, we looked at more than just the building design in our effort to improve the patient experience,” says Bell. “Convenience and ease of access were key areas of focus for us, and resources like the Navigation Center and myChart make that goal a reality.”
