Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo and outfielder Gustavo Campero recently brought joy and excitement to young patients at Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital, delivering smiles, laughter, and a heavy dose of Angels team spirit during their heartfelt visit.
The visit is part of the longstanding partnership between Angels Baseball and Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital, which brings players and young patients together for unforgettable moments of connection and joy.
“These visits truly brighten the days of our patients,” said Rita Goshert, director, Cherese Mari Laulhere Child Life Program, Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital. “It’s tough for kids to be in the hospital, especially during summer when they’d normally be outside playing and enjoying time with family. Visits from Angels players lift spirits and turn a challenging experience into something joyful and memorable.”
During the visit, Rengifo and Campero made their way to patient rooms, where they spent time with children and their families, signing autographs, learning who their favorite players are, and handing out Angels jerseys, hats, and Rally Monkeys dressed in team gear.
In the hospital’s playroom, Rengifo joined patients for a lively play session with toy horses and dolls, creating lighthearted moments filled with laughter. Additionally, Campero and Rengifo spent quality time with one of the hospital’s beloved therapy dogs, sharing joyful moments with patients and the furry visitor.
A few weeks ago, Los Angeles Angels first baseman Nolan Schanuel and pitcher José Soriano also visited Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital, taking part in similar activities — signing autographs, engaging in hands-on fun, and creating uplifting moments for patients and families alike.
Through the Angels’ partnership, patients from Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital are also invited to attend Angels’ home games, offering them memorable experiences beyond the hospital walls. The team’s continued support helps enhance child life programs that make hospital stays more comforting for young patients.
“It means a lot to me to spend time with the patients at Miller Children’s,” shared Gustavo Campero, outfielder, Los Angeles Angels. “Giving back to the community is a dream come true. It's my purpose to share the blessings God has given us. As a baseball player, my mission is to energize and uplift the community.”
The Child Life Program coordinates special visits like this as part of its mission to help children adjust to hospitalization and brighten their spirits through medical play, fun activities, and emotional support.
